Manuscript Preparation

Formats

Manuscripts may be submitted as Word (.docx) or LaTeX (with a PDF). A single PDF of the complete manuscript including figures is acceptable for initial submission; source files are required at revision. Language is English — clear, concise and technical. Both British and American spelling are accepted, used consistently.

Structure

Format: single-column, standard scientific structure. Length: no strict limit; clarity and completeness are prioritised. Recommended structure: Abstract, Introduction, Experimental / Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References.

Enable continuous line numbering on the manuscript file (Word: Layout → Line Numbers → Continuous; LaTeX: the lineno package). This lets reviewers refer to an exact line when requesting a change, rather than describing a location in prose.

Title page and abstract

  • Title: specific and descriptive. Avoid claims of novelty in the title
  • All authors with affiliations and ORCID iDs; corresponding author marked
  • Abstract: 150–250 words, unstructured, no references, no undefined abbreviations
  • Five to eight keywords, at least one naming the technology and one naming the theme

Figures and tables

Figures and tables must be clearly labelled, high quality, and referenced in the text. Supply figures at a minimum of 300 dpi for photographs and as vector files where the source permits. Do not embed axis labels as low-resolution bitmaps. Use colour palettes that remain readable in greyscale and to readers with colour vision deficiency; avoid red–green as the only distinction. Every axis needs a quantity and a unit.

Units and nomenclature

  • SI units throughout. Report irradiance in mW cm⁻² and state the reference spectrum
  • Photovoltaic parameters as PCE, Jsc, Voc and FF, defined at first use
  • Perovskite and organic compositions written in full at first mention, with the abbreviation defined
  • State the active area and how it was defined, and whether an aperture mask was used

Device data reporting

Where device performance is reported, state the number of devices, the parameter distribution across them, the illumination source and its calibration, spectral mismatch correction if applied, scan rate and direction, any preconditioning or light soaking, and the measurement temperature. Champion-device values alone are not sufficient.

Anonymisation for review

Depends on the review model decision This section applies only if double-anonymous review is confirmed. Under single-blind review, replace it with a line stating author details belong on the title page.

Under double-anonymous review, the main manuscript file should not identify the authors. Remove names and affiliations from the manuscript body, refer to your own prior work in the third person, and check that document properties do not carry author names. Author details are entered separately in the submission system and are visible to the editor.

Downloadable templates

Not yet produced — Word template, LaTeX template, figure guidelines, cover letter template, and data-availability-statement examples are all listed in SCI-DOC-02 §24.4 but need to be built.
