About the Journal

A journal dedicated exclusively to the science, technology, and operation of solar cells.

What we publish

Solar Cell Insights is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing experimental, theoretical and computational research across all solar cell technologies — silicon, perovskite, organic, dye-sensitised, CIGS and CdTe, III–V, quantum-dot, tandem and multijunction, and emerging photovoltaics. Within that field the journal is deliberately broad, covering device physics, charge generation and recombination, energetics and transport, interfaces and morphology, stability and degradation, and characterisation methodology.

Why the journal was founded

Photovoltaic research has a reporting problem. Efficiency records are published; the work that explains why a device underperformed usually is not. Experiments that were carefully designed, properly controlled and honestly analysed are abandoned at the point of writing because the result was not a record — and the field loses the information twice, first when the work is not published and again when another group repeats it.

Solar Cell Insights was founded to reduce that publication bias and make hidden experimental knowledge visible.

What makes us different

We do not treat higher efficiency as the only currency of publication. Efficiency is welcome, and so are charge transport, recombination, energetic disorder, interfaces, stability, degradation, defects, failure mechanisms, reproducibility, standardised characterisation and device physics. We accept scientifically sound negative, null and non-optimised results.

Papers are not rejected due to lower efficiency or negative trends. Proper controls and analysis are the key acceptance criteria.

How we work

01

Submit

The manuscript arrives through the submission wizard.

02

Editorial check

An editor checks scope, completeness and compliance.

03

Peer review

At least two independent reviewers assess the work.

04

Publication

Accepted work is copyedited and published open access.
